Some of the weird laws that are still in effect would surprise most people. We can’t explain why the weird laws are still “on the books,” but we enjoyed reading and researching them. Some of them seem obvious, others more comical, while some are just plain weird. For example, why is it prohibited to play dominoes in Alabama on a Sunday?  So weird!

ALABAMA

  • In Alabama, bear wrestling matches are prohibited. #WeirdLawWednesday
  • In Alabama, it is illegal for a driver to be blindfolded while operating a vehicle. #WeirdLawWednesday
  • In Alabama, Dominoes may not be played on Sunday. #WeirdLawWednesday

ALASKA

  • In Alaska, waking a sleeping bear for a photo is strictly forbidden. #WeirdLawWednesday
  • In Haines, Alaska, a person may only carry a concealed slingshot if that person has the appropriate license. #WeirdLawWednesday

ARIZONA

  • In Arizona, you can get up to 25 years in prison for cutting down a Saguaro cactus. #WeirdLawWednesday

CALIFORNIA

  • In California, you can’t eat a frog that dies during a frog-jumping contest. #WeirdLawWednesday
  • In San Jose and Sunnyvale, California, it is illegal for grocery stores to provide plastic bags. #WeirdLawWednesday

CONNECTICUT

  • In Connecticut, it is illegal to walk across a street on your hands. #WeirdLawWednesday

FLORIDA

  • In Florida, it is illegal for parents to sell their children. #WeirdLawWednesday

HAWAII

  • In Hawaii, billboards or any outdoor advertising is illegal… However, there are 18 exceptions to this law. #WeirdLawWednesday

IDAHO

  • In Idaho, cannibalism is illegal if a person willfully ingests flesh or blood. However, it is ok if it is under extreme conditions as the only means of survival. #WeirdLawWednesday
  • In Idaho, it is illegal for a man to give his sweetheart a box of candy weighing more than 50 lbs. #WeirdLawWednesday

KENTUCKY

  • In Kentucky, it is illegal to paint your lawn red. #WeirdLawWednesday
  • In Kentucky, one may not dye a duckling and offer it for sale unless more than 6 of them are being sold at once. #WeirdLawWednesday

MAINE

  • In Maine, it is illegal to have Christmas decorations up after January 14th. #WeirdLawWednesday

MINNESOTA

  • In Minnesota, it is illegal to stand around a building without a good reason to be there. #WeirdLawWednesday

MISSOURI

  • In Missouri, it is illegal to drive with an uncaged bear. #WeirdLawWednesday

NEW JERSEY

  • In New Jersey, handcuffs may not be sold to minors. #WeirdLawWednesday
  • In New Jersey, it is illegal to wear a bullet-proof vest while committing a murder. #WeirdLawWednesday

NORTH CAROLINA

  • In North Carolina, a bingo game can only last up to five hours. #WeirdLawWednesday

NORTH DAKOTA

  • In North Dakota, beer and pretzels cannot be served at the same time in any bar or restaurant. #WeirdLawWednesday

OHIO

  • In Ohio, it is illegal to get a fish drunk. #WeirdLawWednesday

OKLAHOMA

  • In Oklahoma, you may not promote a “horse-tripping” event. #WeirdLawWednesday

OREGON

  • In Oregon, it is illegal to place a container filled with human fecal matter on the side of the highway. #WeirdLawWednesday

RHODE ISLAND

  • In Rhode Island, anyone who bites off someone else’s limb will face no more than 20 years in prison, but no less than 1. #WeirdLawWednesday

SOUTH CAROLINA

  • In South Carolina, along with being able to vote and play the lottery, you must be 18 years of age to play a pinball machine. #WeirdLawWednesday

TENNESSEE

  • In Tennessee, students are not allowed to hold hands while at school. #WeirdLawWednesday
  • In Tennessee, it is illegal to place tacks on a highway. #WeirdLawWednesday

TEXAS

  • In Texas, it is illegal to milk another person’s cow. #WeirdLawWednesday
  • In Texas, it is illegal to sell one’s eyes. #WeirdLawWednesday

WEST VIRGINIA

  • In West Virginia, roadkill may be taken home for dinner. #WeirdLawWednesday
